Outreach/Education
The Climate Literacy Working Group (CLWG), based at the NOAA Climate Program Office, is coordinating NOAA-wide IPY education and outreach activities in concert with the NOAA Office of Education. These activities will focus primarily on teacher professional development, as well as developing materials for use in classrooms, science centers and museums.
 The International Polar Year (IPY) This fourth IPY will be an intense, coordinated campaign of polar observations, research and analysis that will be multidisciplinary in scope and international in participation. David Carlson, the IPY International Office director has stated that this IPY "will give us a snapshot in time of the state of both Poles, and an opportunity to engage the world on their importance in the global environment".
